Barenbrug Holding helps City Farm

City Farm "De Korenmaat" in Arnhem needed some helping hands

About City Farm "De Korenmaat"

Bringing fellow citizens into contact with their natural environment, that is the purpose of this farm in the city of Arnhem. Because only when you are close to nature you can understand how important it is to deal with it properly. 6500 Arnhem children are educated here every year about nature, environment and sustainability. Next to that, there is plenty of room for fun: there are goats, cows, horses, pigs, rabbits, chickens and geese. There are fruit orchards and there is a nice playground for kids. All to be visited for free by the people of Arnhem and surroundings.

The project

So, of course, when we heard that the city farm could use extra hands for some of their projects, we were glad to jump in. And, since there were different projects to be done, we could arrange all of this “corona-proof”, with the required distance and hygiene measures. On Thursday 10 September, a nice sunny day, we arrived at the farm with a good mood, work gloves and tools. Everybody was informed on beforehand about the projects and who would do what. Here are the results:

Team 1, with advanced carpenter skills, made a wheelchair entrance and storage bench in the cuddly barn.
Team 2, with muscles and endurance, dug a goose pond and a metres-long drain.
Team 3, with precision and souplesse, painted the pigeon loft and the farm shop.

And next to that we also managed to pick the apples from the trees, just in time for the machine to arrive a few days later, to press fresh apple juice, that they sell in their farm shop. It was a fun day! We were very happy to be able to do this as a team.
