Barenbrug Holding spruces up “Hof van Kaatje” playground

On 12 May 2025, 14 enthusiastic employees of Barenbrug Holding, including the Board of Directors, rolled up their sleeves and traded their desks for paintbrushes and garden tools to lend a helping hand at Hof van Kaatje, a playground and petting zoo in Wijchen, the Netherlands.

About Hof van Kaatje

Hof van Kaatje (meaning: Little Kate’s Court) is a playground and petting zoo for children aged 0 to 7 years old in Wijchen, near Nijmegen in the Netherlands. Besides playing with sand and water and riding small vehicles, children can also gain insight into farm life here. There is a vegetable garden and lots of animals, including chickens, geese, goats, rabbits, sheep and horses.

The project

After enjoying a cup of coffee and a tour of the site to see what needed doing, we got to work with spades, sandpaper, and brushes. The weather gods were kind to us that day, blessing us with sunshine and a pleasant temperature of 23 degrees, perfect for working outdoors. Those who know the playground and petting zoo are now sure to feast their eyes as they drive past. The large tubes, which the children play in and on, were recoloured by us and now stand out even more, especially the yellow ones of course. We also painted ten large picnic tables and a wooden play train. In addition, over 100 metres of new fencing was installed. It was a day of hard work, but we also socialised and had fun with colleagues.
