Barenbrug Holland helped ‘Gelukkige Groentes’ in Ooij

On two sunny spring days in May and June 2025, a group of Barenbrug colleagues joined forces at the Gelukkige Groentes (Happy Vegetables) garden in Ooij, a special plot dedicated to supporting the local food bank. With hands in the soil and plenty of good conversations, we helped harvest, weed, and replant vegetables for a meaningful cause.

About ‘Gelukkige Groentes’

Gelukkige Groentes is a self-harvest garden where participants with an annual subscription may harvest their own vegetables. Gelukkige Groentes has gardens in two locations in the surroundings of Nijmegen. At the location in the village of Ooij, a separate allotment specially reserved for the food bank has been established with the income of harvest participants. In this way, the participants not only harvest their local biological vegetables, but they also contribute to the charity food bank. Every week, the food bank collects the harvest in Ooij.

The project

A group of 10 colleagues from Barenbrug Holland helped in this food bank garden on 15 May and 6 June 2025. They harvested spinach, did a lot of weeding, cleared vegetable garden beds, and replanted them with zucchini and pumpkin plants.

It were two wonderful days of working outside. Between the weeding, we had pleasant chats, a nice way to get to know colleagues better in a different setting.
